Place in the world that welcomes New Year first

 

Kiritimati, also called the Christmas Island, is the first place in the world that greets the New Year.

The island is part of the Republic of Kiribati, among the first countries that greet the New Year ahead of the rest of the world.

Time in Kiritimati is six hours ahead of the Philippines -- at 6 p.m. in the Philippines, it's already midnight in Christmas Island.

Following Kirimati, the other places in the world that greet the New Year first are South Pole, Tonga and New Zealand.
